The history of Slovenská ľudová majolika began in 1883, when a vocational school for decorative arts was founded in the city of Modra. In the beginning of the 20th century it gained popularity in the whole Europe and world expositions and after 1952 its official name changed to Slovenská ľudová majolika. The most famous names of the craft have studied or worked here. Since 2017 the ceramics of Modra has been on The Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Slovakia. Each piece is handmade and hand-painted and with it comes an English or Slovak certificate.
